Now the days are officially longer than the nights! So that means that there is more daylight to get all those chores done.. Oh.. goody!... and if anyone dares to mention '˜Spring Cleaning'...?. I might have to introduce them to an additional use for the feather duster!! The Clocks Spring forward on Easter Saturday, tempus continues to fugit, and, looking at the Village Diary of events, there are loads of exciting things happening from now until the end of the year.. organised, as usual by willing (at the moment!) volunteers. Ninfield's list of events for all of The Queen's birthday Celebrations are now pretty much confirmed, with the first one being the lighting of Ninfield's Beacon- within the National Schedule, on Thursday 21st April, from 7pm, at the Blacksmiths Inn. By the way...A warm welcome to Paul, the new Landlord at the Pub, and good luck wishes are sent to him from all in the Village! There will be more news on the Birthday, Pram Race and Carnival events in the upcoming columns, so watch this space! But first it's countdown to Easter...so...

Ninfield Working Men’s Club: Are having one of their infamous Quiz nights tonight! - this Saturday, 19th March at 8pm. For Members and Guests it’s £1 per person, and teams of 4 are required. Apart from all the fun to be had, there is a Cash prize for the winning team! The Committee are also needing Raffle Prizes and more items to sell at their Coffee Morning on Tuesday 22nd March 10am - 12noon, at the Club. They have decided on their Charity for the year and it’s St Michaels Hospice Phoenix appeal. All donations will be gratefully received and if you have anything too large to carry, please call Marjorie on 892239 or Maureen on 892182and they can arrange a pick up!

Ninfield Flower Group: This Saturday, 19th March, the Flower Group are holding a Jumble Sale at the Memorial Hall- doors open at 2pm and entrance fee is only 50p! There promises to be lots of bargains, and all funds raised from the sale are put toward the ongoing shows and their Charities. Ninfield Horticultural Society: Don’t forget, this Monday evening, 21st March at 7.30pm, Ninfield Memorial Hall, the Horticultural Society is hosting a colourful presentation by Wendy from Rotherview as she talks about Camelias. There will also be updates on the forthcoming Spring Show, 26th March Easter Saturday, when everyone is encouraged to go and see the exhibits in all the different classes. Doors open to the public from 2.30pm at the Memorial Hall, and there will be lovely refreshments and homemade cakes to have while you’re viewing the winning entries! Please get the Schedule from the Lower Street stores or call Rose on 892422 for further information.

Hooe Parish Council: Will meet on Monday, 21st at 7.30pm at the Village Hall in Hooe, and all residents are warmly invited to attend. There are lots of events and topics under discussion, and more information about the Queen’s Birthday Celebrations will be on hand. Clerk to the Council, Sally Durman, has contacted me to say that there will be a ‘Clean up for the Queen’ litter pick on the morning of Saturday 2nd April, when everyone is encouraged to come and join a jolly group who will tidy the Village as part of the National initiative. Please meet in the Red Lion car park at 9.30am and you will be put into working groups around the Village! No doubt you could fall into the pub after you’ve finished for a much needed drink!

Ninfield Village Society: Tuesday 22nd March, 7pm at the Reading Room, Church Lane. It’s the AGM, and there will be a brief report on the activities from the past year plus an outline on future projects in and around the village. After a short break, when refreshments will be available there will be a talk and slide show given by Graham Kean entitled, “The Normans at Pevensey”. As I mentioned last week... The Village Society is a group of unsung heroes who look after the beautiful Church Woods, among other things. The Woods were gifted to the Village, and volunteers have maintained, improved and restored the balance of the trees and ponds over many years. The group also organise Village Litter picks, in conjunction with the Parish Council, and will be hosting events during the celebrations for the Queen’s Birthday. PLEASE go to the meeting on Tuesday...you will be very warmly welcomed by Martin Wood, Chairman and Robin Goldsmith, Treasurer... and, thanks to Robin for this.. I must just add a quote from a past Secretary of the Village Society, and also past Village Voice Reporter; the infamously fabulous Cynthia Pettet, who when hearing someone state.. ‘They should do something about that...’ swiftly replied,’ ..and, who are THEY ?’..!! ...you’re much missed Cynthia!

Hooe Open Group: Thanks to Edna for the following! The Ladies met on 11th March to hear a humorous presentation by Robert Powel, owner of H&H Confectionary in Sackville Road. Robin’s shop is much like a Tuck Shop, selling a wide variety of wonderful sweets, some harking back to times past and bringing back many happy childhood memories! After the talk, there were delicious refreshments and the Raffle , which is always well supported. Edna asked the group which Charity they wanted to support, and they have chosen St Michaels Hospice Phoenix appeal, and Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice, both of which will receive a cheque for £100. The next meeting will be on Friday April 8th, at 2.30pm, in the Village Hall at Hooe. Why not go along to join the friendliest group of Ladies to be found! Ninfield Methodist Church: Many thanks to Paul for these details...The Methodist Church wishes everyone a very Happy Easter and invites you all to any of the Easter events. Wednesday 23rd March - 3.30-5.30pm, is the Easter Messy Church for young people and their families and this will include Craft activities, a Celebration and an Easter Egg /Treasure hunt. Then on Good Friday, 25th March, from 2.00- 3.00pm, they will unite with St Mary’s Parish Church to reflect the Good Friday story. On Easter Sunday, 27th March, at 10.30am they will celebrate a Family Praise and worship service at the Church, led by Mrs Pen Wilcock. Everyone is warmly invited to come!

Early Heads Up!: From Alan Young, the writer of a new play to be performed by the Christian Voices, entitled ‘Heart of Gold’. This will be at the Methodist Church on Saturday 9th April at 3pm, and I will give you much more information nearer the time!!

Ninfield Parish Church: Sunday 20th March - Palm Sunday, St Mary’s Parish Eucharist 9.30am, St Oswald’s - Hooe- Parish Eucharist 11.15am. And don’t forget, St Mary’s Church - Thursday 24th March - Maundy Thursday - Holy Communion of the Last Supper, 7pm., Good Friday 2pm combined with the Methodist Church, Easter Sunday 27th, 9.30am Parish Eucharist - then over to St Oswald’s 11.15am.
