WE ARE ALL TEAM GB: Olympic Glory, and how. Surely there can't be anyone, anywhere, who hasn't been hooked on the amazing achievements of our Olympic team over the two weeks in Rio. Even though most of the main events have had to be televised at silly-o-clock in the morning; watching the replays, as and when possible, has been extraordinary; still making the heart thump and bringing a lump to the throat. Yes, of course it was different in London; local, live and atmospheric to the extreme, it was such a shame seeing the Brazilian stadia with no seats filled during some of the morning qualifying stages; the athletes, riders, swimmers etc must have had a shock at first with so little local support. Please God, Rio now gets the Paralympics organised to the highest spec in the next three weeks, please don't let the standards fall from all the improvements that have been made, please get the people there and inspired. But doesn't that just prove how brilliant this Country is, with the National Lottery not only adding funding, and supporting various different sports and training facilities, enabling Team GB to win medals over more varied sports than any other country, but also inspiring our young people to get actively involved, and the rest of us to go and see them doing it. We can all say with assurance that we are Team GB and I will continue to proudly purchase my Lottery ticket on a Saturday, knowing that every £1 helps and, fingers crossed, one day too, there just might be that big win.

NINFIELD PARISH COUNCIL: The first meeting after the ‘summer break’ will be on Thursday, 7.15pm at the Methodist Hall, Church Lane. I’ve put the break bit in parenthesis because, as usual, there were planning meetings and other meetings, discussions, emails, phone calls etc throughout August so, no break at all really. There will be a packed agenda, with the precept, Sparke Pavilion, planning issues, WDC new documents and the school’s new classrooms and lease all probably being included. Do go along to see what is going on and how you can get involved. There is a need for new Parish Councillors to come on board and take on the work that has been done, and progress it to fruition. ST MARY’S SUMMER FETE: On Saturday September 3, 3pm in the Reading Room and grounds the Summer Fete will include barbecue, refreshments, raffle and treasure hunt, with lots of stalls to enjoy. Everyone is very welcome, so please go and support the Parish Church event.

BEXHILL FESTIVAL OF THE SEA: Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4, on the lawns of the De La Warr Pavilion. This is a fantastic event that supports all things fishy and local. Lovely food stands, local beers and wines, cooking demonstrations and all nautical/ angling questions answered.

FLOWER GROUP: Monday September 5 will see Gill Horner giving her demonstration entitled Creative Thinking. This will be in the Memorial Hall, from 7.30pm and the flower group will be very pleased to welcome new members at a small charge of £4, to include light refreshments. All flowers demonstrated are raffled off at the end of the evening, so there is never any waste, just lovely blooms as an added bonus to take away. All funds raised go towards the groups’ chosen charity and their big displays and shows throughout the year.

NINFIELD BONFIRE SOCIETY: I gave an early heads up a few weeks ago, about a special evening presentation being given by the bonfire society on how to prepare your animals to cope with the loud noises of fireworks night. This important and interesting talk will be held on Tuesday September 6, in the Reading room, Church Lane at 7.30pm and given by Vicky Payne, a highly qualified vet and animal behaviourist. BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND: As said a couple of weeks ago, this is the weekend of the summer, when all the last big events take place giving everyone the nightmare of too much choice. Firstly, I hope everyone has been doing the famous Sun Dances, it’s a Bank Holiday after all, and they can be doomed with torrential rain but I’m sure all will be fine. I did mention Brede and the range of fabulous things happening over three days there in St George’s Church and grounds, including the Flower Festival, Steam Giants Rally, Church Fete, Jazz evening, Art Exhibition etc. Then there is the Festival of Transport, at Broad Farm in Hellingly. Again over all three days, showing hundreds of vehicles, vintage and otherwise, original and restored; with a myriad of events within the Festival, food stands, bars, and bands performing. Also, there will be a Charity Garden Party in Crowhurst, in aid of St Michaels Hospice, with food and music on Sunday; plus, if history is your thing, there is the Medieval Festival at Herstmonceux Castle over all three days, it’s a magical event with over 1000 Men-at-Arms, Bowmen, Knights, laying siege to the Castle with full cannon support. Don’t we live in a lovely part of the country, so many fabulous things happening, and all around us. Please keep in touch.
