Ninfield and Hooe

EASTER: May I start by wishing everyone all good wishes for the Easter weekend. I hope you have an enjoyable and peaceful time and for those who have given up something for Lent, maybe chocolate or alcohol? Congratulations. Now, on Sunday, try not to give the factories and breweries the satisfaction of your rejoiced bulk buying. Also, don't forget we put the clocks forward this Easter Saturday night, an hour's less sleep. I was trying to think of a way to add the odd hour into a day not take one off. Or, could we invent the eight day week? Would that help us fit everything in that needs to be done. Should we ask Europe? Let's all try and take a little time over the holiday weekend to relax and reflect, and hopefully recharge the batteries. There are lots of lovely services and celebrations in and around the Villages, plus fun events in Bexhill and Battle for all to enjoy. Fingers crossed for good weather and if you're near the Red Lion in Hooe early on Easter Sunday evening stop by for a bit, there's a fantastic band playing, and a singer you might recognise.

NAG UPDATE: There was an open meeting on March 16 at the Memorial hall and upwards of 90 residents attended; a good turnout and everyone was more than interested to hear the latest updates on the proposed housing numbers for the village, as projected by WDC. Some volunteers have taken on the roles of area reps and they will co-ordinate information to and from the parish council on behalf of their part of the village. If anyone wants to get involved, or would like to have ongoing input with NAG, please email [email protected] or look at their Facebook page. Alternatively, check in the next Parish Magazine when it comes out at the end of this month, or look at the parish council website. There is a lot of information already collated and also advice as to how you can monitor your own locale within the parish. All help is very much appreciated and vital for keeping up with the continual planning applications.

HOOE PARISH COUNCIL: The Clean for the Queen litter pick round Hooe Village is on Saturday April 2. Meet at 9.30am in the Red Lion car park and you will be sent in groups to areas designated for a good clear up. Refreshments will be necessary afterwards no doubt, so pop into the Red Lion and have a nice glass of Adams Ale, that’s water?

NINFIELD FLOWER GROUP: Will meet on Monday April 4, in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm for a fantastic floral demonstration by Pat MacDonald. Do go and see how the group create their famous displays and find out more about their charities and festivals. Call Jennifer on 892878 or email [email protected]

NINFIELD PARISH COUNCIL: Meet on Thursday April 7 at the Methodist Hall, 7.15pm. Email the clerk at [email protected] for more information.

PARISH CHURCH: St Mary’s Church Easter Sunday Service, 9.30am Parish Eucharist. St Oswald’s Church Hooe, Parish Eucharist at 11.15am.

METHODIST CHURCH: Good Friday, from 2pm to 3pm there will be a united event with St Mary’s Parish Church, to reflect on the Good Friday story. On Easter Sunday at 10.30am they will celebrate a Family Praise and Worship service, led by Mrs Pen Wilcock, and everyone is warmly invited to come.

CHRISTIAN VOICES: As promised last week, here are more details of this musical drama group’s forthcoming performance of the play with music, Heart of Gold. Based on the Bible story of Ruth, Naomi and Boaz, this wonderful play is written by Alan Young with songs composed by Dave Chamberlain. Christian Voices will be performing at Ninfield Methodist Church Hall on Saturday April 9 at 3pm and, as usual, admission is free. Everyone is warmly invited to attend and enjoy a glorious afternoon.

EARLY HEADS UP: Here is where I flag up an event which needs a lot of promoting, and this time it’s a serious fundraiser. It’s the Ninfield Memorial Hall Quiz Night on Saturday April 16, 7.30pm, £5 per person to include a ploughman’s supper, but bring your own booze. Teams of up to six and it is hoped that at least 20 tables can be filled. If you don’t want to get a whole team up, please come on your own and there will be teams made up on the night. It’s a really good evening, a great quiz, and all proceeds are going to the purchase of a much needed new oil tank and its relocation. THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY: Both Ninfield and Hooe are celebrating the Queen’s Actual Birthday, April 21, with the lighting of their Beacons, within the national schedule. It’s really fantastic that these two small villages can provide such great evenings; both have 7pm starts and the public houses are hosting barbecues in their car parks. Ninfield’s Beacon Party, Blacksmiths Inn 7pm, lighting beacon at 7.30pm. Paul will be welcoming everyone to join in with food and music. Hooe Beacon Party at the Triangle, 7pm for 7.30pm with Beacon lighting. Lee will be hosting a barbecue in the Red Lion car park, also the Hooe Silver Band will be entertaining. Call me if you’d like to get involved with any of the upcoming events for the official birthday weekend in June.
