Ninfield and Hooe

Here we are: in the second week of January, and already tempus seems to be fugit-ing! As they say, Time flies like an arrow...Blue flies like a banana!! And, how are those New Year Resolutions going..? Or is that precisely it...they're going..! It was quite concerning to be told, ad infinitum, last week, that not only should we all partake in '˜Dry January', we should really rethink our whole alcohol consumption generally. Apart from the confusion of yet another mixed message, my valiantly swimming brain cell kept conjuring up the vision of stable doors and bolting horses; I wonder why?!

Ninfield Working Mens Club: Are having Quiz on Saturday 16th January, 7.30pm onwards. Members and Guests are £1 each, teams of 4, and there is a cash prize for the winning team. This is a very well known, and loved quiz night, great atmosphere, and if you’re not a member, but know someone who is..!!.. then do try and get a team together!

Ninfield Horticultural Society: Don’t forget the meeting on Monday 18th January, at the Memorial Hall from 7.30pm. Clive Richardson is the speaker, talking about the Estate Village of Firle. Light refreshments will be available, entrance is free for members and just £2 for non-members.

Ninfield Local history Group: Barry Wilkinson is the guest speaker for this meeting, an interesting talk on his time working at Northeye Prison. Thursday 21st January, Methodist Hall, 7.30pm, Tea/Coffee and biscuits, all welcome! Members are £1 and non members £3 entry. Please call Rod Ffoulkes on 893635 for information on both of the above gatherings!

Hooe Parish Counci: Will meet on Monday 18th January at Hooe Village Hall, 7.30pm. All residents of Hooe are encouraged to attend and find out what is being discussed for the Village. Please contact Sally Durman, Parish Clerk, or Cllr Pam Doodes for more information.

Hooe Open Group: I was thrilled to have the following report from Edna Wallis - The Ladies Club is going strong and at the recent AGM there was a record number of 20 members, well above the average AGM attendance ! The Hooe Open Group, Ladies Club, held a celebratory luncheon at the Cooden Beach Golf Club on Friday 11th December, with almost 50 members and guests dining. Each member received a box of liqueur chocolates, and each guest a miniature bottle of Grouse whiskey. The programme for 2016 is already in place, with a very interesting line up of speakers and presenters as well as visits planned throughout the summer months. The Hooe Open Group is always open to new members, so if you’re interested in joining a group of lively, outgoing Ladies- they will be only too happy to welcome you to their monthly meetings, which always take place on the second Friday of the month at 2.30pm in Hooe Village Hall- opposite the Red Lion Pub. Ninfield Carnival Committee: Again...Another early reminder of the meeting on Wednesday 10th February 8.30 at the Working Mens Club!. Please come and support the small group of stalwarts who are determined to relaunch the Carnival for July this summer! Defibrillators: Don’t forget - these invaluable assets to our Villages are situated on the right entrance wall of the Kings Arms- Ninfield, and the front of the Red Lion - Hooe., providing 24/7 aid when necessary. There are instructions within the item, so if you ever need to use it, don’t panic, help is within.

At this time of writing: We heard this Monday that the legend that was David Bowie died after fighting a brave battle against cancer. This closely followed the news that Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart had also passed way.. both absolute favourites personally, for many years .The start of a new year can often bring a cluster of losses from the world of entertainment, and maybe, sometimes, from our own world of families and friends. As we reflect, let us all take time to appreciate those we love...
