Ninfield Bowls club played the Observer last Sunday winning 59-55. Fingers crosses that the weather was good for the matches played this last week.

The Hooe Open Group met on Friday May 11 at the Hooe Village Hall, where 21 members of the club were treated to a presentation by Wiltshire Farm Foods. The area manager, Darren Sutton, gave the members an overview of the history of his company, which commenced trading some 30 years ago, from a farm in Wiltshire. The company has now grown to such an extent that they have distributors throughout the UK, producing and distributing some one million meals a day. Their catalogue illustrates a very wide range of meals, which cater for almost every preference, including glutton free, nut free and meals for diabetics and many others for customers with particular allergies. The extent of the available range is quite extraordinary. One of the members of the club, who has been a customer of Wiltshire for some few years, confirmed that the vegetables taste like real garden fresh produce and the meat is not swimming in gravy, which is the case with a lot of pre-prepared frozen meals. Darren then prepared a selection of meals from the catalogue, using three microwave ovens and a steamer, to demonstrate the ease of preparation and quality of the taste. The outcome was that a number of the members will be making use of the services of Wiltshire Farm Foods, who deliver around Hooe and Ninfield three days a week. After the demonstration and tasting Edna Wallis informed the club, that the next meeting to be held on Friday June 8 will commence at 2pm, not 2.30pm. This meeting we will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, when the members and guests will mark the occasion, with the cutting of a specially prepared iced cake, which will be cut at 3pm by Rt.Hon Greg Barker MP, who has been invited along with other local dignitaries, including Councillor’s Stuart Earl and Deirdre Williams and Pam Doods. Hooe Parish Council will be holding their Annual General Meeting on May 21 at 7.45pm in the Village Hall. refreshments will be provided and it is hoped that as many of you will attend as possible.

Ninfield Working Men’s Club will be holding a coffee morning on Thursday May 24 from 9.30am - 12pm. There will be cakes and a bric a brac stall plus a raffle. If you have anything that you can donate, please call 892239 or 892182 for collection. All money raised will go towards the club;s chosen charity - Care for the Carers. The charity helps young people under the age of 18 carrying out significant tasks and who provide substantial physical or emotional care for their family. It is often the case that these young people are providing tasks within the home that would normally be carried out by an adult. Please go and support a very worth while cause.

There is a lot going on in Ninfield over the Jubilee weekend, which all kicks off on the Friday night (June 1) with Little Big band performing at the Blacksmiths. On Saturday June 2 there is the Tea Party and Cabaret for the over 60’s at the Memorial Hall (invite only), doors open at 2pm. In the evening there will be a Jubilee Sparkly Village Party, at the Memorial Hall. 7.30pm - midnight. Adults £3 and children £1. Sunday June 3 there will be Boundary Walks, 2 routes 1 short and 1 long. There will be joining points at Lunsford Cross, and Hope Cottage Farm Shop - Hooe. Permission has been given by Rother District Council Chief Executive, Derek Stevens, for the re-siting of the Boundary Stone at Lunsford Cross to it’s original place. Trish Drawbridge will pipe the walkers onto the Rec at 12.30pm and perform a selection of Airs relevant to the Union of Britain at the start of The Big Lunch on the Rec. The Carnival Queen and her Court will be ‘Crowned’ just before the Dance Club display at around 2pm. After the Dance Club, at approx 3pm, the Youth Forum will present the Jubilee Olympics. During the afternoon there will be balloons and music will be provided Live by assorted Jazz musicians. Monday June 4 is an open day from 10am-4pm. There is a Treasure Hunt with 3 places to get forms from – Memorial Hall, Reading Room and The Old Bakery (Manchester Road entrance) 60p per entry form. At each venue there will be an Activity table where the children can make their Lanterns for the evening procession. During the day Raffle Tickets can be pruchased form the Memorial Hall, Reading Room, Old Bakery, Tin Hut, Blacksmith’s and the Bowls Club. – 60p a TICKET - £3 a strip. There will also be a chance at these venues to submit your bid in the auction for the animal shed donated by Skinners Sheds. At 7pm on the recreation ground, muster for the Lantern Procession – lead by The Bonfire Boyes Drummers. This will end up at the Working Mens Club around 8pm for a Concert and Beacon Lighting – Time Slot designated for Ninfield is 10.26pm!!! And finally, on Tuesday June 5 in Church Woods from 5pm for Picnic, Campfire, Prize giving, Songs and Time Capsule. The theme of this years carnival, July 14, is the Olympics. Please get those thinking caps on for your floats. Due to Olympic commitments, the police will be unable to provide any support for the road closure. Therefore, we need at least 15 marshalls to help with the procession. We also would ideally like a vehicle with flashing lights at the front and rear of the procession. Marshalls will be needed between 10.30am-1.30pm. If you could marshall or are willing to provide and drive a suitable vehicle in the procession please contact Lorna 893644. To start the event in the Arena there will be an official Opening Ceremony with the ‘Olympic Flame’ lighting a beacon on the Rec to start the day. –100 PEOPLE ARE NEEDED TO PERFORM AN EASY ROUTINE WITH FLAGS, RIBBONS, HOOPS ETC!!!!! – 3 rehearsals will be required, Sami is organising it… so, call , email (893699 or email [email protected]) and go and join in a one-time only fun event!

‘Ninfield’s Got Talent!’ is back after huge demand following the fantastic success of last years competition. To register your ‘Act’ for this year’s extravaganza on Friday July 13 in the main Marquee, email [email protected] if you wish to submit and entry. Closing date for entries will be over the Jubilee weekend June 2-4. There will be cash prizes for 1st,2nd and 3rd, with a special performance by one of last year’s finalists in the interval. If this was not enough, to end the evening there will be a Band for dancing till Midnight.
