Ninfield and Hooe village voice - March 23

From Ninfield Parish Council: As a Parish Council, our agenda and debate can cover a diversity of subjects: speeding and parking issues, the Diamond Jubilee, finance and the general upkeep of the village. In particular this month, the cleanliness of the village was a major talking point with both Councillors and members of the public raising concerns over litter, dog waste and horses fouling the pavements.

Over the past few months, there has been a noticeable increase in all three and all are detrimental to our village. Please can we ask everyone to ensure they:

Clear up after their dog(s) - we have a number of responsible dog walkers in the village but, as usual, the few can spoil things for many. We have received complaints of dog waste on the recreation ground, footpaths and pavements. The village has plenty of dog bins so please clean up after your dog, and if you see someone not picking up their dog waste, please make us aware.

Litter - we have a main A road going through our village and do suffer from litter being thrown from cars. Please, if you see litter, can you pick it up and put it in the bin or make the Council aware if there is a large amount of litter. Can we also ask that all parents make their children aware of the importance of putting their litter in the bin and keeping their play area clean.

Horses fouling the pavements - horses should not be ridden on the pavements. Again, there are a number of responsible owners that are aware of this and walk their horses on the road but, despite our local police making certain owners aware, we still have horses fouling the pavements - and it isn’t easy to avoid with a pushchair and/or a group of small children. Please think of others using the pavement.

Apologies for the subject matter this month, but these small issues are of great concern to so many in the village. Please help to keep our village clean.

The theme of this years carnival, July 14, is the Olympics. Please get those thinking caps on for your floats. Due to Olympic commitments, the police will be unable to provide any support for the road closure. Therefore, we need at least 15 marshalls to help with the procession. We also would ideally like a vehicle with flashing lights at the front and rear of the procession. Marshalls will be needed between 10.30am-1.30pm. If you could marshall or are willing to provide and drive a suitable vehicle in the procession please contact Lorna 893644.

Don’t forget that you can find out more community information from both villages and Wealden District Council on our district councillors (Pam Doodes) website or the Ninfield Parish Council website: www.pamdoodes.com / www.ninfield.webplus.net.
