Ninfield & Hooe village voice

Ninfield Local History Group had a packed July meeting with standing room only in the Reading Room on Thursday July 19 which gave a record attendance at the meeting.

The group was delighted to welcome several members of the Pook family. Some had traveled from Australia for a family reunion of over 30 people covering 3 generations. The family once ran a shop in Lower Street, now the general stores and have many connections with Ninfield and surrounding area. Brian Broughton and Jim Hoad recalled memories from their younger days which were greatly enjoyed. There were recollections of Ninfield in wartime as well as more lighthearted episodes. They hope to record as much information as possible in the group archive which is being compiled. The next meeting of the Group will be on Thursday September 20. There will be a talk by John Cheshire entitled ‘What the Census Tells Us’. On Thursday October 18 a guest from Bexhill Museum will be talking about The Brassey Family. Everyone is welcome to the meetings. There is a charge of £1 for members and £2 for non-members to help cover the cost of refreshments and guest speakers. Annual membership costs £10. For more information please contact: Acting Chairman: Rod Ffoulkes: [email protected] / Tel: 893635.

Ninfield Bowls Club have faired better last week (possibly helped by the sun shinning and helping us all to feel much better!). July 25 they played against St Johns Mead Eastbourne and lost 94-61. July 27 they played Hampden Park at home winning 92-85. They played Gullivers on Sunday July 29 winning 95-67, even with a strong wind coming off the seafront!. On Saturday July 28 they were involved in the Roundheads versus Cavaliers which was followed by a BBQ.
