Ninfield & Hooe village voice

The closing date for your nominations for Carnival Queen and princesses is TODAY, April 6. The Carnival Committee are on the hunt for their Carnival Queen and princesses. Do you have a year 6 girl or a girl starting school in September from Ninfield or Hooe who would like to be part of this historical event? To put forward your nomination, please complete a form at Ninfield Stores and give to Linda Scott. There have been very few entries so far and the committee would very much like to have some more.

Last Friday, March 30, Ninfield School held a mufti day, at the request of pupil Lilly Perkins, to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice in memory of her mum Helen Jaworanski. The family are trying to raise a total of £10,000 for the Hospice with a variety of events. Lilly’s mufti day raised over £500! In addition, the Racenight held at the Blacksmiths Inn last Saturday, March 31 raised a further £700. A big thank you from the organisers to the MC, Stevie D for a fantastic job and to Louise and Janet for being wonderful hosts. The evening was a great success. The Perkins family and friends are also completing the 3 peaks challenge (Ben Nevis, Scarfell and Snowdon) next week (April12-13). They are looking to raise £5000 from this challenge. To donate, please go to: http://www.justgiving.com/Stephen-Perkins. Please take time to read Steve’s story about his wife Helen and then give your donation - not forgetting to gift aid!! Good luck to all taking part.

A new Hooe Village Youth Club and Youth Forum is being launched at the start of April. This is in response to the requests picked up from the village Consultation carried out last summer. Along with organisations, including The Police (donating £250), Wealden District Council (£1500) and a local club (£1000, but to be ratified at their AGM) Waitrose at Hailsham are supporting the Youth Club as one of the three charities they will support during the month of April. Tubs are provided in store and customers are given a green token and asked to select the charity of their choice. At the end of the month the tokens in each bin are counted and the £1000.00 is divided up proportionately between the three. Simply - the more tokens, the more funding.

Spring Welcome at St. Oswald’s

This March has left just like a lamb

The sun bright in a clear blue sky

All the Snowdrops in their clusters

Among the headstones side by side

In the hedgerow peer the Primroses

Through brambles and fallen leaves

Crocuses and Daffodils play hide & seek

Between the molehills and the trees

The fencing, posts and railings

Display ravages of seasons past

With the whitening of the timber

And the peeling of the bark

The grass will soon need cutting

When the soft mud starts to firm

Now the gravel paths are drying

And the Catkins twist and turn

As they struggle into blossom

From the warming of the sun

While the mists and frosts of morning

For this spring are nearly done

On the breeze you might just hear

As the bells peal their rallying sound

Of the welcome that’s in store for you

From this hallowed house & grounds

The peace and tranquillity of St. Oswald’s

Nestling at the bottom of the lane

Amidst the rolling fields and farmland

Is where you’ll return time and again

Sundays - 11.15am Parish Eucharist (Family Service on 1st Sunday of the month)
