No trains on Tuesday if strike goes ahead

Southern Rail has said if a strike by Network Rail union members goes ahead, there will be no railway service on Tuesday (May 26).

There will also be a limited service on Bank Holiday Monday, and severe disruption on Wednesday morning.

“Members of the RMT and TSSA trade unions employed by Network Rail voted in favour of taking industrial action and will stage a 24-hour strike from 5pm on Monday May 25,” said a statement from Southern Rail.

“Should the industrial action go ahead Southern and Gatwick Express will only be able to operate an extremely limited train service on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 May.”

On Monday, it will run four trains per hour between Brighton and London Victoria calling at Haywards Heath, Three Bridges, Gatwick Airport and East Croydon, two trains per hour between Three Bridges and London Victoria calling at Gatwick Airport and East Croydon, and four fast trains per hour between East Croydon and London Victoria.

On Tuesday there will be no service.

On Wednesday, Southern Rail said it intends to run the full weekday service “however, early morning trains may be disrupted”.

“We advise you not to travel on Monday or attempt to travel on Tuesday and to check before travelling on Wednesday,” said the statement.

“If you have already purchased a ticket to travel on the strike days, you can obtain a refund by returning it to the station or the retailer it was purchased from.

“Alternatively you can use your ticket (including Advance purchase tickets) to travel on Sunday (May 24) or Wednesday (May 27).
