Plant Sale: Northiam Horticultural Society will be holding their Plant Sale in Northiam Village Hall tomorrow, Saturday 7th May, at 2pm. There will be 1000+ plants grown by Great Dixter and Society members including perennials, annuals, herbs and vegetables. If you have any space at all in your garden, this is the place to find the right plant to fit. Most of us have been known to buy even when we have no space, as they are all so tempting!!

Quiz: Just a couple of spaces available at the Bonfire Society’s Quiz on Saturday, so call Judith (252114) if you fancy topping up a team. The festivities start at 7.30pm and include Barbara’s famous raffle, beer from Rother Valley Brewery, and Pete’s fiendish questions.

Messy Church: An opportunity to get out and enjoy the village, with a walk starting at St Mary’s Church at 4pm on Sunday, with cream scones, tea and squash as a treat at the end. Everyone is very welcome to join in – why not bring the whole family?

Bowls Club: The Bowls Club has started its season, and if you fancy finding out all about this lovely sport, you would be very welcome to pop along to the club.

Bowls is suitable for all ages and genders and Northiam BC welcomes new members and offers free taster sessions. If you would like to give it a try, you just need some flat shoes (trainers are fine) and you can book a taster session by phoning Trevor on 01797 252307 or just turn up on a Monday night from 5.30pm. Northiam is a friendly club suitable for either social or competitive bowls, so why not give it a go?

Women’s Fellowship: Molly Boot has recently returned from Tanzania, working with Tear Fund, and she will be telling the ladies of Women’s Fellowship all about her time there. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 2pm in the Church Centre – new faces always welcome.

Coffee Stop: Call into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings for coffee and a chat at Coffee Stop, between 10 and 12 noon.

Footpath Walk: Join the Footpath Group for a figure of eight 7 mile walk in Linton. Leave Northiam surgery car park at 9.10am, starting at 10am at6 Linton car park next to the church. Break for a pub lunch. If you are new to the area, or need a little bit of motivation to get out and walk, why not join one of the walks? You don’t have to join up, just turn up! Or phone Sue Clarke (253428) if you have any questions.

Parish Council: The next meeting of the4 Parish Council is on Thursday (12th) at 7pm in the Jenkins Room.

St Michael’s Coffee Morning: Always a high point in the village calendar, the Coffee Morning in aid of St Michaels’ Hospice is on Saturday 14th May in the Village Hall between 10am and 12 noon. On offer will be a bric-a-brac, fabulous cakes, crafts (items made and donated by a great Northiam team of makers), St Michael’s own stall selling gifts and cards, and an amazing raffle table. If you would like to donate anything (especially towards the raffle) please bring it on the day, or drop it round to Linda Belton at South Grange, Quickbourne Lane (01797 252984).

Looking Ahead: Christian Aid week runs from 15-21st May, so look out for the red envelopes coming through your door. The week ends with a Coffee morning in the Church Centre, and an extensive Plant Sale at The Byre House on Saturday 21st

And June: Best not to make any plans to go away in June – May is busy in the village, but we’re really going for it in June!! To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, there will be a dance in the Village Hall on 11th , and a barbeque on Sunday 12th on the Playing Fields. Raffle tickets are on sale, with some fabulous prizes (so you might want to steer clear of Mervyn whilst he’s got that glint in his eye).

The next weekend (18th) is the third Bonfire Festival, with Red Diesel headlining the music, but local talent is welcome to contact Geoff Piper to book a slot at the microphone.

The Blue Cross will be holding their annual fete the week afterwards. Let’s hope for a run of sunny weather!
