Village Fair: Fingers crossed for good weather for Saturday, when we will all be heading to the Playing Fields for the Village Fair. The Boot Sale starts at 8am, and the Fair at 10am. Village Clubs and Societies will be manning stalls, so this would be a good opportunity to see what interests you! The WI will be running the Tea Tent, and Colin Cross is in charge of the Classic Cars and Motorcycles. I understand a key attraction this year will be live snakes and reptiles, which I know are very popular.

Footpath Group: Many of our Societies are taking a summer break this month, but the Footpath Group just do things a little differently. Instead of clocking up the miles, they will be holding their annual Fish and Chip Supper on Tuesday in the Village Hall, which will be enlivened by a short talk entitled: I Know You Don’t Believe Me But... Booked places only this time.

Coffee Stop: Pop into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings to catch up with the news. Coffee Stop is open from 10-12.

Seniors’ Club: All pensioners are welcome to the Club which meets each Thursday in Northiam Village Hall. There is always plenty to do and chat about, and whilst everyone arrives about 10.30, there is tea and coffee and the chance to take a look at the bring and buy stall, or the bring and win raffle. After extend chair exercises to improve mobility, members are served a two course home-cooked lunch followed by the week’s entertainment – all for £7. If you would like to join, or know someone who would, please contact Jane (252973) or Linda (252283) who can also arrange for transport if necessary.

Children’s Club: For the first time St. Mary’s Church is having a Holiday Club for Primary School aged children and the theme will be Polar Explorers! The church will be turned into a polar exploration base camp and with the help of Sir Random Finds and Bare Feet, the children will be explorers who go on a mini-expedition each day and learn about a New Testament character. Polar Explorers is for children aged 5 -11 years and will run from Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th August, 10am-12:30pm at St. Mary’s Church. Sarah White is taking bookings – 253118.

The cost is £10 for the three mornings for the first child in a family and £5 for subsequent children. This includes all activities, a drink and a mid-morning snack. A film show is planned for one afternoon and a BBQ one evening for the whole family.

Quizzes: September brings the quizzing season to a start, with the Village Hall Trust in Northiam on 19th, and the Conservative Association in Beckley on 26th. Both are £7 with a ploughman’s at half-time, so book the dates and get your thinking caps on!!

Concert: What a fabulous evening’s music we had on Sunday, when St Mary’s was filled with talented young singers who treated us to a spellbinding Spem in Alium, followed by some popular songs – all arranged to showcase some wonderful close harmony singing. On a wet, windy (jolly summer’s) night it was a real treat, and raised a considerable sum for charity. Congratulations to all the singers, and to Mary and Bumble for bringing them all together.
