Remembrance: A large number of people gathered in St Mary’s and at the War Memorial last Sunday for our act of remembrance. It was most encouraging to see our scout and cub-scout troops taking part, and this year they were supplemented by two Brownies – all well turned-out and a credit to their organisations. And I even got my wish that the traffic would show some respect, most of the cars passing by did at least drop their speed as we stood for those few minutes in the rain.

Lions: Rye and District Lions Club are supporting a national campaign to help children orphaned by the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa. Lions GB have donated an initial £15,000 and are committed to providing help through their own Foundation to ensure the money goes to where it is needed. To help, please call 0845 833 2825.

Chitiwiri: Donations to the clothing collection for Chitiwiri need to be taken to Forge House this weekend for collection on Monday.

Badminton: Badminton Clubs in the Pretious Sports Hall run on Fridays, with the Junior Club at 5.30pm and 6.30pm (Primary & Secondary ages), with the adult club following on at 8pm. The Monday club runs for an hour from 5.45pm. All very welcome.

Dance Club: Sequence Dancing is the attraction in the Village Hall on Fridays from 7.30pm. New members are always welcome, so why not drop by and see if it appeals? Or call Tony Pomfret (253287), who can tell you all about it.

Village Hall Trust: Two events for the Trust this weekend – a Christmas Fair on Saturday 10am-2pm, with Father Christmas in attendance as well as a variety of stalls. Then the monthly indoor Boot Fair will be on Sunday, 9-11.30am. Call Marie Edwards (01797 253264) if you would like to book a stall.

Art Exhibition: Mervyn and Lynn are hosting an exhibition by local artist Heather Stuart at Rose Cottage, Dixter Road on 15th and 16th – 11am-5pm. Painting, prints and illustrated books will be on sale.

Over 60s: Ray Broomfield will be reminiscing about his schooldays in north London in the 1940s at the Over 60s meeting in the Village Hall, starting at 2pm on Tuesday.

Coffee Stop: All welcome at Coffee Stop between 10am and midday each Wednesday for coffee and a chat in the Church Centre.

Flu: The final catch-up session for flu vaccinations is at Northiam surgery on Friday (21st) 2-3.30pm. Private vaccinations are available for all age groups from local pharmacies including Day Lewis in Battle, and Jempsons in Peasmarsh.

Quiz: The Bonfire Society will be holding a Quiz in the Village Hall on 29th November. There will be a ploughmans at half time, wine on the table, and beer and wine on sale. Entry is £7.50, and quizzers will be on tables of 8. If you would like to book a table, or be included in a team, please call me (01797 253375).

Craft Fair: The Bonfire Society will be holding their next Craft Fair in the Village Hall on December 6th, this time with a Christmas focus, so you could be in line to solve all your gift dilemmas. There should be around 30 stalls, as well as mulled wine, mince pies, coffee and cake to fortify you while you make your decisions! There will even be Bonfire Society Calendars on sale for only £3 – and if you can’t wait, please call in to The White House Studio, Dixter Road and Terry will sell you one!
