I am pleased to say that The Muddy Duck seems to be in good hands once more, and over 90 people enjoyed the special £5 Roast Dinner at the beginning of the month. The Bonfire Society held the first of the new fortnightly Quiz Nights last Thursday, which combined teamwork, knowledge, luck and the final thrill of Play Your Cards Right. Many thanks to Paul and staff at the Muddy Duck for allowing the quiz to take over the pub, and for supporting it with a donation to the prize and some welcome snacks halfway through the quiz. The next Quiz Night is Thursday 21st at 7.30pm, so come along and have a go!

This evening (Friday), Dance Club are in the Village Hall for sequence dancing, starting at 7.30pm. In the Pretious Sports Hall, Badminton clubs meet at 5.30pm (Primary) 6.30pm (Secondary), and 8pm (Adults).

The Rabbit and Cavy Society are holding a show in the Village Hall on Sunday.

On Monday, Bridge Club meets at 2pm in the Jenkins Room alongside Short Mat Bowls in the main Village Hall. Badminton and Zumba are held in the Pretious Sports Hall at 5.45pm and 8.15pm respectively, and Classical Pilates in the Village Hall at 6.30pm.

John Williams will entertain the Over 60s with a light-hearted talk at their meeting in the Village Hall at 2pm on Tuesday. Tuesday night is Pie Night at The Muddy Duck - £6.95.

Pilates classes are held at 9am and 10am in the Village Hall each Wednesday, and Coffee Stop brews up in the Church Centre between 10am and 12 noon, and all are welcome to pop in. This week, PC Nigel Collins or PSCO Becky Unicombe will be attending from about 11am to meet residents and discuss any issues or concerns they may have. Karate Club meets in the Village Hall each Wednesday from 7pm.

The Rye and District Association of the National Trust will be holding a ‘Meet and Greet’ event for members, friends and anybody who would like to learn more about the activities of our local group. Showtimers are holding a 50s and 60s themed Village Hop on Saturday 30th March – make a note in your diary. They are also recruiting for their next production, which will be a 50s and 60s Variety Show of song, dance and comedy in the Village Hall on April 27th, May 3rd and May 4th. Volunteers for on and off the stage are welcome to contact Caroline Poyton 252918 – experience isn’t necessary.

People in Rother are being asked to back the new ‘Go e-sussex’ campaign and register their support for faster, more reliable broadband. East Sussex County Council has received significant funding to help get much faster broadband in homes and businesses across the county. By 2015, they aim to upgrade 90% of the county to superfast broadband (24 Mbps and over) whilst ensuring everyone in East Sussex can access the minimum level of service of 2 Mpbs. East Sussex County Council ran a consultation last year to ask residents and businesses about their current state of broadband. The results of this survey helped win £10.64m in funding from Government and have persuaded the telecoms market that East Sussex is worth a second look. Registering your interest does not mean you will have to subscribe to the service when it’s launched, but saying “Yes to superfast broadband” will directly help everyone in East Sussex receive faster, more reliable broadband.
