Let’s hope the weather stays kind for the next wave of entertainment planned in the village.

Firstly, we have the monthly Village Hall Coffee Morning Market today (Friday 31st ) with all your favourite stalls and, of course, the coffee and cake.

Messy Church returns from a short summer break on Sunday at 4pm in St Mary’s. There will be craft and general mayhem around the topic of The Good Shepherd. All very welcome.

Bridge Club meets in the Jenkins Room each Monday at 2pm for Chicago Bridge – call Eve (253431) to find out more. Monday Badminton restarts this week at 5.45pm in the Pretious Sports Hall. Players of all ages and abilities are very welcome, playing for fun and fitness – session price remains £2.50 per person. Call Sue (253428) or turn up. The Pilates class is at 6.30pm in the Village Hall.

The Over 60s meet at 2pm on Tuesday, and there is Line Dancing in the Village Hall at 7.30pm.

The Wednesday Pilates classes restart this week, at 9am and 10am in the Village Hall. Call Sarah (01424 882285) if you would like to join a class. Coffee Stop is in the Church Centre between 10am and 12 noon.

WI meets in the Jenkins Room at 1.30pm with a speaker from Sussex Air Ambulance. The competition is a helicopter-related item and there will be the usual flower of the month and book table. Call Thelma (252858) for more information. Karate Club starts at 7pm in the Village Hall.

Thursday Seniors’ Club will be entertained by Mr Hoad this week, and the chiropodist will be calling. Northiam Chamber Orchestra rehearsal is at 7.30p-m in the Village Hall.

Next Saturday is a really busy day, so clear the diary! Start with setting up your entries for the Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show. Do take a look at the schedule, it’s all good fun – no tantrums and shady tricks here!! If you haven’t entered before, may I encourage you to pick a couple of classes and have a go. The committee members are always on hand to offer help and advice, and it is a most rewarding experience to be part of something so traditional – and even better if you get a prize card against your exhibit!!

It costs just 20p per entry, all you have to do is turn up between 9am and 10.30am, fill in a card and place your exhibit on the table. Please call Carole Rhodes (253292) if you have any queries at all, but do take the plunge and enjoy taking part. I’ve taken a quick look at the schedule, and you can enter with one dahlia flower, three apples, six runner beans, or your favourite photograph. You know you can do it!

After that, relax with the famous Pink Pig Day at Northiam Scout HQ from 1pm. The Scouting Group will be providing a barbeque, tombola, side shows for family fund, and everyone’s favourite: bric-a-brac.

8th September is also the annual Ride and Stride event, which is a sponsored course around the churches in Sussex from 9am until 6pm raising money for Sussex Historic Churches Trust. Each sponsored participant raises half their sum for their own church.

The Blue Cross will be holding an Open Day and Fun Dog Show on Sunday 9th September from 10am until 4pm. Registration for the Dog Show will be from 9.30am, at £1.50 per class. There will also be alpacas to see, a Gun Dog Scurry, Agility Demonstration, Raffle, Pimms & other refreshments, Cake Stall, Trade stands etc.

The Conservation Society join with Great Dixter to celebrate the opening of the Great medieval Barn and the Society’s 25th Anniversary on Saturday 22nd September 6pm-9pm. Admission will be by ticket only, available from Mervyn Hayes at Rose Cottage, Dixter Road – 253443. £5 includes cheese and wine, music by Northiam Chamber Orchestra and access to the grounds, and, of course, the restored Barn and Oast.
