Today (Friday) is the monthly Coffee Morning market in the Village Hall, 9am -12noon. Stalls include jewellery, cards, ceramics, cheese, meats, jams, vegetables, plants, furniture, candles and wooden items. There is also the lure of coffee and cake which I know has its own following!

Badminton clubs are continuing into the summer, with young people at 5.30pm (Primary), 6.30pm (Secondary) and the adult club at 8pm. Dance Club meets in the Village Hall at 7.30pm for sequence dancing.

On Saturday, there will be a Coffee Morning in aid of St Michael’s Hospice in the Village Hall 10am – 12 noon. As you may be aware, this year St Michael’s celebrated 25 years of invaluable service to the community, having served an astonishing 12,500 people with specialist palliative care in that time. Your support is needed to carry on this work.

In the evening, there will be a Bingo Night starting at 7pm. Entry is free but you have to bring a donation which can be used a prize – bottle of wine, box of chocolates etc. Books are £6, or £10 for two, bring your own drinks and nibbles. All proceeds to Northiam Nursery and Beckley pre-school. Call Kath 01797 260609 for further information.

The Footpath Group leave Northiam surgery car park at 1.15pm on Sunday to enjoy Fair Fairlight, a walk of 5 miles.

The Creative Writing Group meets in the Jenkins Room at 10.30am on Monday, followed by Northiam Friendly Bridge Club at 2pm. Contact Judith 252114 if you are interested in joining.

The Bowls Club hold a Club Night each Monday from 6pm and would welcome anyone who is interested in joining – beginners are welcome! Contact Trevor Monk 252307, or just turn up. There is badminton in the Pretious Sports Hall at 5.45pm, and Zumba Fitness at 8.15pm. In the Village Hall, there is Pilates at 6.30pm and Fit to Box (adults and children) at 7.45pm. The Budgerigar Society will meet in the Jenkins Room at 7pm.

Tuesday brings us Toddlers in the School between 9.15am and 11.15am with many activities, a healthy snack and the chance to meet new friends. The Rye & District Association of the National Trust meet for their monthly walk at 10.30am at Rye Railway Station. This walk will be on the flat, about 8 miles along the Military Canal to Appledore, with the return to Rye by train. Please confirm 24 hours beforehand with Phil Maynard 260637.

Line Dancing will be in the Village Hall at 7.30pm, Excel Fitness runs Kids’ Fitness at 5.30pm, and Core and Posture at 6.30pm in Pretious Sports Hall. Aerobics follows at 7.45pm.

Coffee Stop welcomes all-comers each Wednesday between 10am and noon in the Church Centre for a chat and a sit-down with friends. Karate Club meets each Wednesday evening in the Village Hall.

South East Open Studios begins next Friday 1st June, with nearly 300 local artists and makers opening their studios to the public until 17th. In Northiam, we have three artists this year, Vincent Matthews at 2 Monk’s Way, Christine King, who is exhibiting in the Station, and Terence Ayling at The White House Studio, Dixter Road. With Maggie McCormack and Carmel Meade in Sandhurst, Carol Mitchell in Peasmarsh and Glenys Griffiths in Ewhurst Green visiting this group would make a nice outing over a weekend. Please call in to participating artists to pick up a guide, or these are available in local businesses.

And then we will be ready for our wonderful weekend to celebrate the Jubilee! Make sure you have registered for children to receive their commemorative mug (12 and under), and get your exhibits planned for the Horticultural Society’s Summer Show. If you have promised to supply a cake, please remember to take it along to the tea tent before you settle down to enjoy the day.

The Jubilee Dance will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 2nd June, and will feature the Starrlite Beatles and local talent. Music will span the decades, so there should be something for everyone, and if you would like to dress for your favourite decade, you may win a prize! Entry is £2 on the door, and visitors are very welcome.

On Sunday we have a church service in the marquee, followed by The Big Lunch, children’s fancy dress and the Grand Raffle Draw. The weekend is brought to a close with the torchlight procession to light the beacon on Monday evening.
