There is another collection of clothes under way as a fundraiser for Chitiwiri in Malawi. If you have anything that you could contribute, please bring along to the Post Office by 6th May. The people collecting the clothes would like any unwanted men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, belts, shoes (tied in pairs), handbags and also curtains, bedding and soft toys.

There are green bags in the Post Office for donations, or alternatively put them in a black bin liner. Please tie securely as it makes them easier to move around. Thank you.

The second Messy Church will be held this Sunday at 4pm at St Mary’s when everyone is welcome to spend some time getting creative around the theme New Beginnings. I understand that sunflowers feature in a big way. The session ends with a light meal, which means that families shouldn’t have a rush to sort out meals as well as bath, books and bedtime.

Every Monday, the Bowls Club hold a club night from 6pm and would be pleased to see anyone who would like to try the sport. Expert coaching is available, and woods can be provided. Just turn up to the green, which is on the right hand side of the Playing Fields, or call Trevor Monk 252307.

On Tuesday, Rye & District Association of the National Trust will be having an outing to Milestones - Hampshire’s Living History Museum. The museum is on the outskirts of Basingstoke and takes the form of a typical High Street with all the shops you would expect to find in days gone by. The cost is £25 including travel and entrance. Women’s Fellowship meet in the Church Centre at 2pm, when Keith Collins will be creating a watercolour painting whilst sharing tips on technique and application. If you are interested in seeing and hearing Keith, you will be very welcome at the meeting.

Coffee Stop starts the day on Wednesday with open house in the Church Centre between 10am and 12 noon.

The Thursday Seniors’ Club will hear from Denis Langley this week, with the Citizens Advice bureau available between 10am and 12 noon. The Parish Council meets in the Jenkins Room at 7pm.

Next Saturday (12th) there will be a Coffee Morning at Farthings, Main Street, in aid of the NSPCC. Entry is £2.50 and there will be stalls selling cakes, bric-a-brac and a splendid raffle. Pop along between 10am and 12 noon.

Then the Horticultural Society’s annual Plant Sale will start in the Village Hall at 2pm, with over 2000 plants to tempt your green fingers. Plants have been sourced from Great Dixter and the Committee’s gardens, so there should be some interesting and useful plants on offer at some very competitive prices! Get there early for the best bargains, but if you prefer a more leisurely approach, there will be teas and cakes and a plant crèche for your new babies!

And finally, a message from The Blue Cross: the animal re-homing centre in Northiam is still very active, but visitor numbers have fallen off since the centre was threatened with closure two years ago. There are 25 cats in the centre awaiting a new home, so please call in and see the animals.
