Mary Shipstone: Forgive me for not having the right words to speak about the events of last Thursday, but I just want to let people who didn’t meet her, know what a lovely little girl Mary Shipstone was. It was only 18 months ago that she first came to St Mary’s and immediately found a place in our hearts. She was always so happy and enthusiastic, contentedly concentrating on what she was doing and always, always smiling. She looked like a princess for her big day - her baptism last December - when she joined the church family, and all of us who knew her will miss her very much.

Great Dixter: The gardens of Great Dixter will be open to parishioners on Sunday 21st, 2-5pm. It’s worth bringing some ID with you to save embarrassment. I imagine the gardens are still in full fettle, with all the lovely sunshine, and it’s a great treat to be invited round twice each year to enjoy the gardens in their variety. There will also be a Plant Fair on 4th & 5th October.

Bonfire Procession & Fireworks: You can’t have escaped noticing that Northiam is the first of the Senlac group Bonfire Processions this year, with our Firework night on Saturday October 4th. The Parish Council have kindly agreed to fund a viewing platform for people with disabilities, so if you would like a space, please contact Pete or Ruth on 01797 253798, so they know how big to build it! The field will open from 6pm, where there will be a bar and amusements. The Procession will leave at 7.30pm, coming down to the Muddy Duck and turning back again, so anywhere along Main Street should give you a good view. Tell your friends!

Scout Leaders Wanted: The Cub Scouts are in need of a leader. If anyone is interested in taking on this incredibly fulfilling role, please give Jacky Broad (01797 253228) a call. We have one of the oldest Scout troops in the country, and it has given a fantastic start to many of our youngsters.
