Number of families homeless soar

Detailed figures from Arun District Council's housing department show the grim toll the recession is taking on the lives of those unable to afford a home of their own.

Homelessness activity carried out by the council soared between April and October 2008.

The number of inquiries its employees handled stood at 739 compared with 507 the previous year.
