Oak Grove students’ smashing show

“LUCK be a lady” and “Sit down you’re rocking the boat” rang out at the Connaught Theatre yesterday, as Worthing students gave its debut performance of a popular Broadway musical.

Students from Oak Grove College, in The Boulevard, Durrington, treated the audience to their take on Guys and Dolls, in the first of two performances.

Based on the Broadway stories of Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls tells the story of Nathan Detroit, the organiser of the oldest established, permanent, floating craps game in New York.

He enters a wager with a fellow gambler that they won’t be able to get the next girl they see to go on a date with them.

Amelia Jimmison, 20, a musical theatre student from Chichester University, who is working at the school on a collaborative placement, said: “It’s been a pleasure working with such a talented and inspirational group of young people.

“It is also so nice to see so many young boys involved in musical theatre.”

Head of art Sarah Gladden added: “This play is sure to be a real treat for all, and a great evening of entertainment.

“It’s the perfect balance of story, dance, music and romance.”

The college will give its final performance on Thursday evening.
