OAP trapped in A21 crash

POLICE closed the A21 trunk road in both directions at Whatlington, near Battle on Saturday morning after two cars collided, leaving an elderly woman trapped in one of the vehicles.

The accident happened just after 11,30am a mile south of the John’s Cross roundabout, on a stretch between the B2090 Park Lane to Cripps Corner junction and Whatlington Road at its junction beside the 15th century Royal Oak Inn.

Fire and rescue teams from Battle and Hastings attended and used hydraulic cutting equipment to free an elderly woman trapped in the wreckage. She was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital, Hastings.

Details of her injuries are not known. There was no report of other casualties.

Diversions were set up until the A21 was later re-opened during the early afternoon.
