Observer cash for schools scheme is back

Great news for schools '“ the Observer is relaunching our popular Cash For Schools awards.

Learning centres in the Chichester, Bognor and Midhurst areas can earn money and win prizes by collecting mastheads from this paper.

Last year Edward Bryant School in Bognor Regis was our winner, taking home the top prize after collecting more than 160 mastheads. Runner-up, with a prize of £50, was Nyewood C of E junior school in Brent Road, Bognor.

Now we’re inviting our local schools to take up the challenge once again and get collecting!

Simply cut out and save the masthead on your Observer each week – the masthead is the name of the paper in blue at the top of the front page – and give them to your school.

We will pay 1p per masthead for every school with more than 750 pupils, and 2p per masthead for every school with fewer than 750 pupils. But you must collect enough mastheads to qualify for the minimum payment.

In addition, the school which collects the most mastheads will receive £100.

We will also give four prizes of £50 each to schools chosen at random from those who have registered to take part.

Last year’s Cash For Schools proved very popular – and pupils at Edward Bryant School are already getting started on their collection of mastheads.

Headteacher Cathy Williams said: “The children really enjoyed taking part last year – it was lovely to hear that we had won.

“Extra money in schools is always really useful and we used ours to help us celebrate the Jubilee this year.”

Observer editor-in-chief Colin Channon said: “School budgets have never been tighter, so we are delighted to once again do our bit to help.

“Last year’s scheme proved very popular and we have been asked if we would repeat it.”

The scheme will run to the end of the summer term 2012.

To take part, just send an email to [email protected] to let us know your school is collecting the mastheads. All mastheads that are to be counted must be returned to the Observer by August 30, 2012.
