Ofsted awards top marks for Bognor nursery

A nine-page report by education watchdogs on a Bognor Regis nursery can be summed up in one word '“ outstanding.

The latest Ofsted inspection of the Bognor Regis Nursery School and Children's Centre has produced another top rating for the facility. All 24 inspection judgments produced the same highest grading possible.

It is the fourth time in a row the inspectors have awarded the facility, led by Sian Rees Jones, their highest accolade. Lead inspector Joyce Cox said: "This innovative nursery and children's centre makes a significant difference to the lives of numerous children and families."

Jean Ensing, the school's chairwoman of governors, said: "We are very proud the high-quality work in the nursery centre has been recognised in this way. To achieve the highest possible grade again is remarkable. It is a great tribute to the professionalism, commitment and hard work of the staff. We are grateful that West Sussex County Council has worked with us to develop the nursery centre."

The three Ofsted inspectors visited the Victoria Drive nursery school and children's centre with 133 children aged up to four from a diverse range of backgrounds in mid-November. Their report was published last Wednesday.

It graded standards as outstanding. Ms Cox said: "This outstanding and inspirational nursery and children's centre provides high-quality education and care.

"The key reason for its many successes is that the headteacher is a superb leader who has the highest possible aspirations for herself, her staff and children. The headteacher and her staff clearly value each child as being uniquely special."

She continued that the warm physical and emotional care provided by the adults ensured the children at the nursery felt safe and secure.

Bright rooms filled with excellent displays conveyed the outstanding achievements of the children and the staff's high expectations to make the children excited to go to school and learn new things.

A stimulating and exciting curriculum, indoors and outdoors, supported their learning exceptionally well. An outdoor area, which Ms Cox described as stunning, is freely available. All this helped the children make exceptional progress in their speaking and listening skills.

Her only suggestion to improve standards further was to enhance the accommodation for children aged up to three by creating an extra area for quiet play and rest.
