Older people can have a say

Older people are being invited to have their say in Bognor Regis.

The first meeting of the older person's consultation forum is being held on August 4.

The session from 10.30am to midday at the Laburnum Centre on Lyon Street is aimed at seeing if the idea of giving a voice to that age group would be a success.

Janet Marsden, Arun Neighbourhood Network's co-ordinator, said: "There are decisions made all the time that directly impact on older people's lives without their opinions being considered.

"We want to address that and give older people the chance to be heard and be involved in making things better."

The forum's intention is to allow these views to be heard and passed on to the relevant organisations.

Feedback can also be given if changes are made based on the comments of the forum.

The introductory meeting will give those who go along an idea of how the forum will work and what sort of topics might be discussed.

They will have the chance to see if they will be interested in joining its future meetings. No specific age range has been set for membership of the forum. Refreshments will be provided. Transport can be laid on if required.

Anyone unable to attend the meeting should contact Polly O'Neill, the network's community engagement worker, on 07750 8902954.

The network is part of a project to promote health, well-being and independence for older people in the Arun district.
