ONE WEEK LEFT OF THE NATIONAL KNIVES AMNESTY

Sussex Police is extremely pleased with the number of knives surrendered '“ and reminds people that there is just one week left of the National Knives Amnesty.

People can place knives in secure bins at police stations throughout Sussex until June 30.

The amnesty is one of the many tactics being used to tackle knife possession amongst young people.

The message is being reinforced to young people in schools. In addition the Violent Crime Reduction Bill contains measures which will: increase the age at which a person can be sold a knife from 16 to 18 years and introduce powers to school staff to search pupils for weapons. This Bill is currently going through the House of Lords.
