ONLY THE BEST

Wealden District Council has launched the Only The Best Award for all types of food businesses. The Award pays tribute to those businesses that have excellent standards of food hygiene AND recognise that looking after their customers is important to their business.

To earn the Only The Best Award, businesses must satisfy stringent criteria and show they have excellent food safety standards, well-trained staff and a real commitment to customer care.

"Our award gives consumers confidence that what goes on behind the scenes matches the great experience they have when they go into the premises," said Councillor Mrs Pam Doodes, Cabinet member for Health and Public Safety on Wealden District Council.

"There are 14 local food businesses from all over Wealden that have already earned the Only The Best Award. These include Silletts Cottage Restaurant in Selmeston; Binghams Riverside Restaurant in Uckfield; John Cook, Butcher in Wadhurst and the Ashdown Park Hotel in Forest Row. East Sussex County Council's Care Centre at Hookstead in Crowborough has earned the Award as well. The list of new applicants applying for the award is growing daily."

Binghams Riverside Restaurant is proud to be among the first businesses to receive the award:

"Our staff were absolutely thrilled when they heard that we had achieved this recognition. The award tells customers that not only do we offer good food but excellent personal service," said Iris Elliott, of Binghams.

As well as a certificate and window stickers, businesses that earn the Wealden award are listed on the "Only the Best" website '“ www.wealden-otb.co.uk

Customers can find out who has the Award and also learn what extra features these places have to offer. They can check if they offer healthy eating alternatives, have a no smoking policy, child-friendly facilities, sell or use local or organic produce or provide vegetarian options.

"We're always on the look out for businesses that could get the Award," said Councillor Mrs Doodes. "And we know there are a lot more businesses that have great hygiene and customer care that deserve it."
