Operation Sunshine

The days are hotting up but as we get ready for summer there is still need to stay on our guard according to Sussex Police.

During the last week at least four burglaries in the town centre have been put down to windows or doors left open in warmer weather.

It is believed an intruder has gained access to flats and houses that have not been made secure and items stolen include mobile phones and chargers, laptops, and other small electrical items.

The advice to householders is to make sure all ground floor windows and doors are locked at night and all valuables including car keys are not left visible for anyone to see from outside.

Also, if you are in the garden always make sure the front door is locked.

This current crime prevention campaign is called Operation Sunshine, and Inspector James Scott from Bexhill station is urging residents to be aware and take the right precautions.

He said: "Please make sure you don't give burglars the opportunity to steal from your home by leaving windows open at night or the door not secured when you are at the back of your property in the garden.

"We are investigating this spate of burlgaries which have been committed through insecurities to property...open back doors or windows."

He added: "Don't leave valuable items on display, such as your car keys, phone, or laptops.

"These burglaries are easily preventable."
