DICKER PLAYERS REUNION: Dicker Village Hall, Saturday March 30. Have you ever been in a production by the Dicker Players? We are having a reunion of Dicker Players past and present, anyone who has helped with the catering, lighting and tech, music or performing on stage. Clive Hale has now retired from organising the annual cabaret so it is an appropriate time to have a reunion and look back on what we’ve done. If you have any video footage of show, please let me know. We’ll try to show some clips during the evening. We also want to plan a special one night only event on November 30, a return of the Dicker Players to their roots, at the Dicker Hall. PUDDINGS GALORE: Wednesday April 3, 7pm, Alciston and Selmeston Village Hall. Come and hear about a new initiative to support schools in Uganda being organised by Paul Sutton from Milton Street, with the support of our churches and local residents. A simple dish of soup cooked by your favourite chef, Peter Blee, followed by desserts of your dreams: pavlova, apple pie, trifle, ice-cream and cream, how can you resist? The hall and food have been donated by an anonymous benefactor, so all money collected goes to this very worthwhile charity.

ARLINGTON RESERVOIR: Arctic conditions heralded the start of February but by the end of the month our anglers were basking in temperatures that were more like early summer than late winter, and the weekends were super busy not just for The Fishery, but walkers and visitors were out in force taking in the glorious views and enjoying the unseasonably warm temperatures. The fish have been equally enthusiastic and, to quote one of our rangers, ‘they’re just jumping on to the hooks right now, it’s fantastic.’ One weekend in February saw 89 anglers catching a staggering 320 fish between them, that’s an average of nearly four fish each. Flies doing well are still primarily boobies fished close to or on the bottom, and green seems to be the favourite colour, especially with a blue flash in the tail. The most successful spot is currently The Bay, but for a bit more of a challenge the rangers suggest trying The Willows, Gabians and The Dam Wall.
