Awaiting Apollo's reply

Well said, Nicola Hunt, regarding the Picturedrome, it is amazing that Adam Cunard should be under attack, and I am also pleased that the Bognor Regis town electors' meeting last week urged the town council to consider expanding our cinema to four screens.

I’ve been looking at the financial status of Apollo Cinemas who are the anchor tenant for the St. Modwen multiplex.

They run 14 cinemas, 1.25% of UK cinema trade. They’ve traded at a loss over the past 2 years, £605,723 last year, no dividend paid. Shareholders’ funds showed a drop from £10,200,680 to £9,954,597.

Their Wikipedia entry states they have two new cinema developments: Bognor is not mentioned.

I have written a Freedom of Information request to Arun, whether St. Modwen have an alternative anchor tenant – they replied they do not. I have now asked Arun if their financial officers have done due diligence checks on Apollo and await their reply.

Looking at Apollo’s current pricing, both at Torbay and Fareham (nearest), as against the Picturedrome: Apollo – Adult £7.70, child £5.60. Picturedrome – £2.50 both. Apollo – Family of four £22.60. Picturedrome – £10.

I would ask in these columns for Mike Stevens, centre manager for Regis Centre Limited, to confirm or otherwise that he favours the St. Modwen multiplex. Also, why Nigel Lynn, Arun’s chief executive, is speaking to Regis Centre volunteers? Will he be mentioning Apollo and their live performance ideas for a percentage of the operating time of the multiplex?

Will that be in addition to the current Arun Arts 100% live programme? Or instead of, as has been Arun’s intent all along?

Finally. I have written to Apollo Cinemas to inform them of the size of opposition, still growing, to their scheme – just in case they are not fully aware.
