Battle Observer comment

JUST in case you have been living on a desert island for the last few months, the Olympics kick off with the grand spectacle of the Opening Ceremony tonight (Friday).

Local dancer Sarah Jones will be joining a huge troop of performers to ensure the ceremony goes with a bang.

And athlete Jack Waller, who grew up in Catsfield, will be hoping to bring home a medal for his efforts in the men’s water polo competition.

The Observer will be cheering for Jack every step of the way and we hope you will be too.

Keep up to date with Jack’s progress in our sports section.

Good luck Jack - we are all rooting for you.

By the time you read this, the annual Battle In Bloom Awards would have taken place on Thursday evening.

The ceremony, which is held in the lush Almonry Gardens, is always a lovely evening and the organisers always seem to be extraordinarily lucky with the weather.

It’s great to see local people recognised for their hard work and good fun to guess which scarecrows caught the public’s imagination this year.
