Busy year ahead in Rye and Battle area

Despite the year being in its infancy there is already a lot happening.

A new two-screen cinema is set to open in Rye this month and plans are already well underway for the town’s big Scallop Week festival in February while Battle Town Council has announced a major refurbishment of the landmark Almonry building.

There are lots of things to get involved with such as adult education courses starting and community choirs appeal ling for new members, while East Sussex County Council is urging people to step up their recycling efforts in 2015.

The political landscape is set to change too with council elections taking place in May as well as a general election.

Battle railway station has got the recognition it deserves with English Heritage rating the gothic inspired building as one of the ten most important station buildings in the country.

Using such an auspicious terminal will provide at least some consolation for Battle commuters who endured a winter of direction last year due to landslips and now face more difficulties and disruption due to no trains calling at London Bridge Station this year.
