Editor’s comment-Worthing and Adur Enterprise week a success

Having attended the launch of the Worthing and Adur Enterprise Week, I was greatly encouraged to see such determination in the face of testing times for many.

While commitments in the office prevented me from attending its sessions this month, I have heard some excellent reports from Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce about the response which the series of innovative events to encourage emerging businesses has gone.

After all, it’s not often (if ever these days) you get quality events for free, but this was genuinely the case in offering a valuable lift to anyone considering setting up their own firm, or existing companies seeking to learn some new skills in a rapidly-evolving marketplace.

The chamber, Northbrook College and individual speakers involved should all be praised for their efforts for attempting to breathe some much-needed enthusiasm into our economy.

That’s certainly the aim of those behind celebrations surrounding the arrival of the Olympic flame in West Sussex in just a few weeks’ time.

Inevitably, many of those not into sport have looked away with indifference, but it’s hard not to get swept along with the enthusiasm for it all – especially as the flame is literally passing by a number of residents’ doorsteps across the Herald and Gazette area.

What’s more, the county has some realistic prospects of success at the Games – including swimmer Gemma Spofforth, Emsworth’s Gold medal sailor Iain Percy and sitting volleyball player Emma Wiggs in the Paralympics to name a few.

So with this in mind, there’s understandably much hope the games can bring about a genuine legacy, plenty of great sporting moments and offer at least something of a boost to companies that have been on the back foot for too long over the past few years.

It’s going to be an exciting month ahead for sure.
