Future looking brighter for jobs

There has been a real need for skilled, well-paid jobs for years. With the decline of agriculture and proliferation of seasonal jobs, opportunities have been thin on the ground.

Thank goodness then for Rye Harbour which is now realising its full potential as the biggest employment generator in this corner of the South East.

There seems to be a real will and desire at the moment to create new opportunities and jobs with a multi-agency approach and strong involvement of Rye College and the new Studio School. Despite these tough economic times the future is looking brighter.

All credit to Rye Bonfire Society who battled through heavy rain and a quagmire of mud on the Salts to light up the town again.

It is the single biggest night of the year in Rye and the thousands who attended enjoyed a great trouble-free celebration.

Many would be shocked if they knew how small the band of dedicated stalwarts that stage this massive event is.

Well done too to all those who dug deep to raise £4,000 in street collections.
