Good emergency cover is essential

WE would urge people to go along to Rye Town Hall on Monday evening and make their views known over the future of Rye’s ambulance station.

Battle ambulance station has already closed and there is a very real question mark hanging over Rye with the Ambulance Service looking at using Hastings as its main hub.

James Pavey, Senior Operations Manager for South-East Coast Ambulance Service will be at Monday’s meeting and will hopefully shed more light on the current plans and proposals.

Ambulance response times are vital and even a small reduction in these times could quite literally be a matter of life or death.

Rye is situated on the busy A259 trunk road which has seen a number of serious accidents and fatalities over the years.

We are also concerned that response times are maintained for the more isolated villages in the area.

Revelations about the antiquated telephone system at the Lion Street tourist information centre are of great concern.

It is the first port of call for many potential visitors to a town that relies heavily on tourism. If bookings are being lost because people cannot get through a serious investigation is needed.
