Just a minute

THE Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is 100 years old this year.

It was started by Father Paul Wattson, an Episcopalian priest in the United States, who believed that a time of prayer that concentrated on unity would help the church.

Of course there are still things that divide Christians and churches, but there are some vital beliefs that keep us together!

On the front of the leaflet that has been published for Christian Unity Week this year there is a picture of the Miracle Cross that overlooks Ground Zero in New York. The compilers of the leaflet decided to use this because the prayers and reflections have been written by American Christians, which seems appropriate as this week began there in 1908.

It also reminds us that the cross is the symbol for all Christians because it was on a cross that Jesus Christ died for the sins of everyone. But what is the Miracle Cross?

I'll tell you next week.
