Certain measures have been put in place to ensure sticky fingered individuals can’t go to town with your card.
The limit for contactless payments is £30, meaning anything over that will have to be paid for via chip and pin.
Your card will also only carry out three to four transactions in a row before they require pin number authorisation.
To put your mind at ease further, the average rate of contactless fraud is 2p per £100 as opposed to chip and pin, which is 6.9p for every £100 spent.
Using contactless payment has various benefits including a reduction in payment times, meaning queues are shorter due to the ease of transaction.
It has also resulted in people using cards much more than cash which is beneficial when it comes to recovering any losses through theft; a stolen card is easily cancelled and any loss is covered by the bank’s fraud department, whereas stolen cash is gone forever.
Contactless technology has already progressed from the simple debit or credit card. Now smart phones, smart watches and tablets can be used to pay the contactless way.
Apple Pay is one such form of payment which is currently growing in popularity
Creating further fuss free options for payment in place of physical money.
