Top school could be under threat

ONE of the county's highest-ranking schools at secondary level faces a shaky future following potential cuts to transport grants.

Bexhill’s St Richard’s Catholic College is nervously awaiting the outcome of a county council meeting to determine if only families on low incomes are entitled to help with the price of getting to school.

The catchment area for St Richard’s is huge compared to most schools.

Most of the intake comes in on the train, never cheap for a set season ticket at the best of times.

St Richard’s is widely recognised for providing pupils with a very high standard of education and was originally set up with the idea of taking children from all over the county.

If the county council wants to preserve the future of this school, then it needs to rethink its transport cuts - or at least make them much less severe.
