There are hundreds of charities and organisations in the area that just wouldn't be able to survive without the help of volunteers, and they are always looking for more.

If you think you might be able to help these organisations to provide their much-needed services, check out the opportunities below or see www.do-it.org for more.

Befriending buddy – SASBAH (Sussex Association for Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus)

SASBAH’s aim is to allow people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus to lead a full and independent life, linking them with volunteers who help them socialise and enjoy leisure activities such as going out to the cinema, pub or simply having a chat over a coffee.

More befriending buddies are required to be matched with people, and this may be on a one-to-one basis or in a group.

They are looking for people with a sense of humour and who are willing to ‘have a go’.

Age and gender are unimportant (although many of their members are in their early 30s).

More volunteers are needed in the role of bereavement counsellors to counsel clients in their own home and using their own telephone.

You will need a good telephone manner, be a sympathetic listener and have general empathy towards the general public.

They also need administrative support volunteers to help with data input at their area office near Pulborough and someone to help with their fundraising.
