Full of comments

I anticipate over the coming weeks the letters pages of the Observer will be full of comments about the forthcoming consultation into St Modwen's plans for Bognor Regis.

I hope the comments and the letters make people want to find out more about the plans and give their opinion because this could be the single most important consultation for this town.

But please don’t let the issues get hijacked.

Don’t believe rumour and gossip.

If you have a question, please try and attend one of the consultation events which will be staffed at all times by people who have the facts and can answer your queries.

What I want to stress is that, despite what you may have heard, despite what you may have been told, and despite what you may have read, nothing has been decided.

We will go into this consultation with an open mind ready to hear the views of Bognor Regis and the wider Arun district.

The facts are these:

n This scheme is one that can be delivered for Bognor Regis.

n It would create hundreds of new jobs

n The uses we are investigating would be much more than just a cinema which has grabbed all of the attention

n The scheme would create a cluster of quality restaurants, totally transform the appearance of the theatre and create public squares and provide a hotel

n The new proposals take into account what people told us in 2008 – that they wanted to keep the theatre and that they did not like the tall buildings.

The consultation will run for three weeks from Wednesday, November 21, and close on December 12. T

here will be a public exhibition in London Road in Bognor Regis on Thursday, November 22, Friday, November 23, and Saturday, November 24, from 10am to 4pm.

We are currently putting together a variety of additional events to ensure as many people get the opportunity to have their say as possible.

Cllr Mrs Gillian Brown,

Leader, Arun District Council
