Leave wildlife in woodland alone

He has orders from the council. I spoke to his manager, he said they had to cut as instructed. So why is it every year, they say they have an animal and wildlife protection policy, but every time, cut back so hard that the foxes leave because they mow down the grass they hide and lay in.

In the labour manifesto, it states ‘allow more council-owned open spaces to grow as wild flower meadows to encourage pollinating insects and reduce unnecessary mowing’.

This time, they have cut back all the grasses. All the saplings, the butterflies are gone and the wildlife exposed. I watched in horror the fox cubs run for their lives as the monster mower got near them, where they had laid and played for weeks.

A neighbour told me he said they would be cutting the banks and paths. That hasn’t been done. I don’t see how they compare.

All I want to do is protect the wildlife, all they want to do is destroy it.

It will now become a dumping ground again for months. Drunks will accumulate on the banks, leaving bottles and cans everywhere. Dogs will foul all over and the usual, as same irresponsible owners will leave it. Another argument the council can’t seem to handle.

By all means clear the paths back, but let Newgate Wood be a wood. Cut what needs cutting, not waste money.
