LETTER: Customers' wishes always come last

I really sympathise with the residents of Lewes who are losing their Crown Post Office in the High Street to another location within WH Smith, but I could have told them months ago that no amount of petitioning and demonstrating will change the mind of a national company like The Post Office Limited once its made up.

Witness the attempts of Polegate Town Council to stop Barclays Bank and Lloyds Bank closing up shop earlier this year and leaving the town ‘bankless’.

Our MP Maria Caulfield lobbied really hard on our behalf with these two banks just as I’m sure she did with the The Post Office Limited on behalf of her Lewes constituents, but at the end of the day she cannot force these organisations to do anything they don’t want to do.

Since we all know they are governed by one thing and one thing only – maximum profits for the least outlay – should we really be surprised?

The wishes of their customers always come last.
