LETTER: Doctor with a special gift
While on holiday and making plans to come and live here, I was ill and the hotel put me in touch with Dr Sargant. The instant I met him in August 1984 I knew I wanted to go on his list of patients if at all possible. And I did.
On the few occasions I needed to enter his surgery over the following 23 years, he was always on his feet to shake hands. No matter who had been before me, or who might have followed, one was always given the impression he had time only for the person in front of him.

While I was sorry when he left the Grove Road Surgery, I was glad for him that he was going to get a well-earned rest in retirement. He deserved to have more than nine years of it.
