Many people go on holiday at this time of year, but why do so many of them half close the curtains or blinds?

No one does this when they are at home. I realise that not everyone wants the neighbours coming in opening and closing curtains, and few people have electronic curtains, but this is still a dead giveaway. There are many opportunist criminals just roaming around looking for an easy target. Why advertise to them?
