LETTER: Hospice plans for 24-bed facility

Following reports about the proposed development in Pease Pottage, which includes 600 homes, built by Thakeham Homes, and a potential new St Catherine's Hospice building, St Catherine's would like to clarify that initial plans are to build a 24-bed inpatient facility.

With growing demand for hospice care locally and people living with increasingly complex conditions, initial design plans include 24 spacious inpatient rooms complete with en-suite bathrooms and separate living spaces, enabling St Catherine’s specialised team to support patients and their family and friends in comfort.

St Catherine’s are limiting initial construction to 24 beds to make sure that funding is used as efficiently as possible.

However, the planning application which has been submitted to Mid Sussex District Council is for a 48-bed care facility as building plans have been designed so that, if demand for local hospice care continues to increase in the future, there is room to expand.

This will allow St Catherine’s to plan ahead for the next 30 years and beyond.

GILES TOMSETT

Chief Executive at St Catherine’s Hospice, Malthouse Road, Crawley
