How many tax-paying members of the ordinary public, facing cuts in public services in Mid Sussex and elsewhere, ‘warmly welcomed’ this Conservative Government wasting £9.3m of taxpayers’ money on what is nothing more than misleading propaganda?

However, it is not just members of the ordinary public who do not welcome these pro-EU leaflets:

According to Conservative MP Dr Liam Fox, this ‘Dodgy Dossier: the Sequel’ does not actually contain facts; it contains opinions, assertions and suppositions. Not only is it a waste of public money, but in effectively doubling the remain campaign’s budget, the Government have betrayed any sense of fairness in the process of the referendum and, with the content of the leaflet, have abdicated their responsibility to tell the truth on the issues.”

Labour MP Kate Hoey, had this to say about the leaflet’s misleading claim that ‘Over 3 million jobs are linked to exports to the EU,’: “The Government have deliberately conflated trade with countries in the EU with EU membership. It is not necessary to be a member of the EU to trade with the EU. With this leaflet, the public know that the Government—the Prime Minister, in particular—now realise they are on the wrong side of the argument and will lose on 23 June.”

Apart from the leaflet concentrating on dodgy economic arguments, where in the leaflet are the ‘fundamental and far reaching reforms’ of the EU, as promised by Cameron? Where are the reforms to make our own laws? Where are the reforms to control mass immigration from the EU?

Soames is desperately trying to defend the indefensible. Public anger over these propaganda leaflets will actually persuade many more voters to vote to leave the EU on 23rd of June. This will be our first chance in over 40 years, to have a say in who actually governs our country.

On the 23rd of June, you will in effect be voting either for unelected EU Commissioners in Brussels, or for elected representatives in our Parliament in London, to govern our country. You will therefore be voting either for government by bureaucracy or government by democracy.

The answer to so many of our problems today, is not ‘More Europe’, but to return to being a self-governing, democratic nation, in control of her borders once again. Able to continue to trade freely with the declining EU market, but far more importantly to be free again to arrange our own trade deals with the rapidly growing markets outside of the EU, in the rest of the world, where we can also access goods at cheaper world market prices, free of EU tariffs.
