LETTER: People at risk

His stubbornness is putting people at risk. And I don’t necessarily mean because of the strike. Imagine the kind of stress they are currently under wondering if they can cope with the new contract? Worrying about patient care, about their quality of life, about the future of what I’m sure they imagined to be a stable and respected profession.

Also, future patients and the wellbeing of our country are being put at risk. If young people see doctors being run roughshod over like this, they will not choose it as a profession and we’ll have a doctor shortage to compliment our teacher shortage. Public sector workers are precious and we need to treat them well, or our society will barely be worth the label.

Hunt is behaving like an unhinged management consultant on some kind of vengeful mission. As a Health minister who is not listening to doctors, he is basically unfit for purpose and either needs to reevaluate his position and listen to the people whose lives he is affecting, or resign.
