LETTER: Store too small for a main PO

I am writing in connection with the suggestion that the main Horsham Post Office in the Carfax should shut and relocate to within the W.H. Smith store in the Swan Walk shopping mall.

The post office is often extremely busy but reasonably spacious – whether it is always adequately manned is another matter; the W H Smith shop into which it is proposed to move is relatively small with the display shelves too close together which often makes it difficult to move around especially if people are blocking the gangways whilst looking for items or reading the magazines; it is not well lit; there is simply insufficient room to accommodate a post office of the size required in a town like Horsham.

I am not objecting to the concept of including post office facilities in other stores; it works well in other sub post offices within Horsham particularly the Budgen’s/Shelley’s convenience store in Coltsfoot Drive.

If W.H. Smith were to close their present store and relocate to the much larger premises next door which recently became vacant following the closure of British Home Stores there would be plenty of room for the post office.
