LETTER: The coastline is biggest asset

May I suggest if councillor Luke Proudfoot wants Worthing to have '˜A Bright Future?' (Herald, February 2) he should support the residents' '˜Save our Seafront and Skyline' campaign and stop supporting high rise buildings and towers that will put Worthing in the shade, cut the light from our beach, seafront, promenade, open spaces and leisure facilities.

Worthing’s coastline is our biggest asset and needs to be protected from buildings that will cast a shadow and cause a wind tunnel during the peak times of the day, especially during the summer.

On a fine day, many tourists and residents travel to our sunny seafront to enjoy the outdoor pleasures that Worthing’s popular, sheltered, calm, warm, climate has to offer.

We cannot control the weather but we can and should ensure our seafront maintains its maximum light.

For this reason I wish our two local MPs every success in at least reversing the decision to build such a high tower so near the seafront as part of the planned Aquarena development.

To have a bright future Worthing must remain true to its name of ‘Sunny Worthing’.
