You may have heard the saying '˜May you live in interesting times' which - depending on who you believe - is a translation of a traditional Chinese curse, or (according to Wikipedia) an apocryphal saying that may possibly be rooted in a letter from the 19th century politician Joseph Chamberlain.

Either way, the implication is that ‘interesting times’ are not necessarily good for us, and while that may well be true in some ways I want to suggest an alternative.

What if, instead of looking with fear at a changing world, we seek to identify opportunities to demonstrate love and grace?

What if, instead of being concerned about others making bad choices, we were to follow Jesus’ example and walk alongside those in difficulty and trouble, showing them a better way? What if, instead of worrying, we were to embrace hope?

Christians are invited to share a wider perspective of a world which God wants to redeem, and rescue, and make new. And what better reminder of that need than the news?! Interesting times indeed.
