A really good move

I MUST congratulate Cllr Deirdre Williams for her courageous move from Conservative to independent councillor. Now she will be able to vote according to her own conscience and the wishes of her constituents and not be whipped into complying with the instructions of the leader Carl Maynard. Let us hope that other councillors will follow her lead and give their own voters a voice. I know there are good conscientious councillors who are restless under the yoke of an authority that has been ignoring its taxpayers.

Mrs Williams’s biggest problem in her area is the eastern seafront. And it is to change. In a recent council document it was states “there remains the refurbishment of the Marina Gardens and East Parade depending on external funding.”

Don’t imagine that regeneration would necessarily be bad but I have in my possession the original ‘Tim Gale’ plans and if the east seafront residents were to see them they would have reason to quake in their boots.

Of course what would really happen might be vastly different and we cannot judge in advance, but I would say that we must demand as voters and taxpayers much, much more proper involvement in the scheme. The people must be listened to, so the more councillors breaking away from the controlling party that allowed the shelters, the better.

As for the possible project - if the council does again as it did with those abominations, I will quote Deirdre Williams - “there will be war in Bexhill.”
