Age UK Horsham District says ‘thank you’ as local knitters smash this year’s Big Knit target

Over the past month Age UK Horsham District has been gratefully receiving packages filled with woolly knitted hats from local residents as part of the ‘Big Knit’ campaign that Age UK runs with innocent smoothies each year.

‘innocent’ donates 25p for each hat that is provided to help fund Age UK’s services during the winter.

This year the target for Age UK Horsham District was 1500 and they would like to extend a huge thank you to all those that took part this year as not only did they hit the target, they smashed through it with local residents sending in well over 1700 hats raising over £420.

Community Fundraiser Lawrie Mallyon said: “The response has been fantastic. We’ve had hats from individuals all over the district as well as knitting groups submitting literally bags full of their creations. The level of imagination and different designs has been great and I would like to express my thanks to all those who took part and encourage them to keep knitting beyond the deadline.”

The Big Knit campaign is in its 10th year and is a regular fixture in the ‘Spread The Warmth’ campaign launching in November (when you will start to see the hats adorning innocent bottles in stores).

Spread The Warmth focuses on supporting older people throughout the winter when they are at increased risk.

This year there will be a variety of opportunities for the public and local businesses to support Age UK Horsham District’s range of vital services, many of which do not receive any regular funding.
